About Me

How it started

At 30years old I was fat and miserable! 83kgs at 150cm tall and a size 16.
I ended up in Crossfit unintentionally when the gym I joined offered free Personal Training sessions. I met with PT Michelle, who spent a full hour talking over-hyped rubbish and I just nodded the whole way through trying to get out of the situation. Michelle truly was a pretty girl. An Italian girl with bright natural blue eyes, a mean set of quads, perfectly sculpted eyebrows that matched her perfectly applied make up.

My first session involved 1/2ft high box jumps and 4kg Kettlebell swings. I nearly threw up and started seeing stars as I gasped for breath. I vowed never to return for the final free session. The last session involved free weights. Deadlifts, squats and step ups onto a bench. When I woke the next day, and my legs were rendered useless, I lay smiling knowing I found something I loved....

It was in December 2011 on a Body Building Forum I saw advertising for group coaching session on the Deadlift. It was at a little shithole gym in downtown Silverwater called PTC Sydney. The floor was uneven, it was in a building that should have been demolished years ago, the external was a junkyard where the neighbouring workshops piled up junk no longer required or couldn't be stored due to lack of space in the tiny buildings. The weight plates were mixmatched, there was chalk dust everywhere and let's not discuss the toilet situation! Previously my 1RM deadlift was 90kgs, at the coaching session I didn't go too far over 60kgs, the conventional pull was just not right for my extremities. I told the Coach I can only pull wide and he made a few changes to my set up which I practiced the rest of the day. A week later, I pulled 97.5kg for a new PB!
The next coaching session was the Squat, and had my ego deflated very quickly....! I used to squat 100kgs at Fitness First, but noone ever told me that you needed to hit a certain depth, and within minutes my 100kg squat was scaled back to a ridiculous 55kgs! Oh the shame!! I had butt tuck, poor upper body mobility that wouldn't even let me grip the bar plus I could barely hold the bar on my back without what I now know as a "Bitch Pad".
Last session was bench. I had never benched before so I was set up correctly from the start. I ended the day with a 1RM of 40kgs, 4 weeks out from what would be my first Powerlifting Competition.

In February 2012 I competed in my first powerlifting competition. It was just a bench comp but I had only learned to bench in January the month prior. I grinded out a 47.5kg PB on the third attempt. I was stoked! I was the only girl competing and took home a small trophy as a token of my effort that day. Needless to say I was hooked and was already training for my next competition.

A few highlights in Powerlifting
April 2012 - I competed in GPC NSW States 3 Lift competition and came in second place with a 247.5kg total in the 56kg class. I broke an Open National record that day and set more records in the Senior 56kg class. Squat 90kg, Bench 47.5kg and Deadlift was 112.5kg.

June 2012 - I flew to PTC Perth for a Deadlift comp on thier opening day, I came second but learnt a valuable lesson, sleep before a competition! I deadlifted 110kgs. Not my best.

June 2012 - I flew to Queensland to compete in GPC Nationals. I placed third in the senior category and  landed in the top 10 of all the females competing that day. I totalled 267.5kgs and took home more National records and a trophy!

November 2012 - I competed in tne GPC Push/Pull held nationally in the main cities around Australia. I benched 57.5kg and Deadlifted 120kgs. Both were competition PB's and I came first for the Sydney leg of the competition, finished in the Top 10 for both lifts nationally.

March 2013 - I competed in the GPC ACT States comp, I was in my third week of illness after being struck down with Glandular fever for the second time in my life. So to not risk not competing in a 3 Lift comp in 2013, I decided to travel to ACT to token lift. Ended up with my best PL total to date - 290kgs.
Squat 105kgs/Bench 55kgs/Deadlift 130kgs. Missed lockout on a 140kg deadlift! Came home with 5 National records, including the Open 56kg Deadlift record!
